Into The Mystic: Photographs and Memories

Looking through some photographs I found inside a drawer
I was taken by a photograph of you
Jackson Browne, Fountain of Sorrow

In these times of pandemic, strife and uncertainty, sometimes it can help to break out old photographs and memories that take us back to times that can put a smile on our face and establish a new mindset for the day. Thank God for pleasant memories and the soothing effect they can have on your spirit.

Group To Discuss Why It's So Hard For White People To Talk About Racism

A group of local residents wants to keep the conversation about racial justice moving forward in a positive way. The public is invited to join them weekly to talk about the book "White Fragility" by Robin DiAngelo.

Whites are often at a loss for how to respond to race-based stress in constructive ways, according to DiAngelo, as they have not had to build the cognitive or effective skills or develop the stamina that that would allow for constructive engagement across racial divides. The author refers to this as "white fragility".

According to DiAngelo, white fragility is a state in which even a minimum amount of racial stress becomes intolerable, triggering a range of defensive moves. These moves include the outward display of emotions such as anger, fear, and guilt, and behaviors such as argumentation, silence, and leaving the stress-inducing situation. These behaviors, in turn, function to reinstate white racial equilibrium.

DiAngelo's book explicates the dynamics of white fragility, and how we might build our capacity in the on-going work towards racial justice.

The Vermilion group has both morning and evening meetings to suit your schedule. They get together outside with social distancing at the United Church of Christ, Congregational, 990 State Street.

Discover Vermilion Ohio

Vermilion, Ohio is the crowning jewel of the south shore of Lake Erie. From quaint shops to fine dining, the arts, entertainment and unmatched festivities, Vermilion truly has it all. Be reminded of a simpler time when an afternoon at the beach, a hand-dipped ice cream cone and a stroll along Main Street made your day special. Stay for a day, maybe two, and take home a memory that will last forever.

This enchanting little town has always been a sea side community with New England style atmosphere. This is the kind of town that still has a working soda fountain, a town square and summer concerts on the green. People here actually sit on their front porches on a summer evening. Visiting boats are not only welcomed, they are an important part of the ambiance of what locals call "Harbour Town."
