A group of local residents wants to keep the conversation about racial justice moving forward in a positive way. The public is invited to join them weekly to talk about the book "White Fragility" by Robin DiAngelo.
Whites are often at a loss for how to respond to race-based stress in constructive ways, according to DiAngelo, as they have not had to build the cognitive or effective skills or develop the stamina that that would allow for constructive engagement across racial divides. The author refers to this as "white fragility".
According to DiAngelo, white fragility is a state in which even a minimum amount of racial stress becomes intolerable, triggering a range of defensive moves. These moves include the outward display of emotions such as anger, fear, and guilt, and behaviors such as argumentation, silence, and leaving the stress-inducing situation. These behaviors, in turn, function to reinstate white racial equilibrium.
DiAngelo's book explicates the dynamics of white fragility, and how we might build our capacity in the on-going work towards racial justice.

“We strive to love, serve and grow as we live God’s message in our families, our church, our community and our world, now and forever more.”
This enchanting little town has always been a sea side community with New England style atmosphere. This is the kind of town that still has a working soda fountain, a town square and summer concerts on the green. People here actually sit on their front porches on a summer evening. Visiting boats are not only welcomed, they are an important part of the ambiance of what locals call "Harbour Town."
